Taste and see that the Lord is good

Psalm 34:8, “Taste and see that the Lord is good”. The Lord is calling us to test his goodness. Has anyone ever heard of such an invitation that the creator of heaven and earth is ready to prove his true nature and existence to his children.

If your faith is built on the experiences of others, it will not withstand the harsh trials of time and will eventually fall. A strong faith rests on experiencing God in daily life. The faith that is developed by spending time with the Lord, learning from his word and exercising at the time of need evolves into a deeper and stronger relationship of trust and love.

Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. God doesn’t want us to be a passive listener to his word, but  wants us to actively scrutinize the word and check its accuracy. God, who has endowed us with logical reasoning and intellect doesn’t want us to accept  HIS word with closed eyes and ears but encourages us to apply our mental and emotional faculties to check the validity of the word, if it were not so Jesus would have never commanded us “Love the Lord with all your heart, soul, strength and mind.” How can we love the Lord with all our mind if we have never challenged the word and found it perfect.  We have not been called to be blind worshippers but mature followers of Christ.

Are you in doubt about the accuracy of the Bible and existence of Jesus? You are on the right path since every true seeker of truth begins his journey with a mind full of doubts. Thomas had doubts about the resurrection of Jesus and Jesus himself gently removed those doubts.  Thomas then,  became a powerful instrument to spread the word of God all over the world. Paul began by persecuting the Church violently but an encounter with Jesus turned him into a devoted follower of Christ. It was Paul who said, “I want to know Christ, yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his suffering, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.” Who could say such words full of strong devotion and love for Christ if not the one who has tested and tried Jesus’ love and found it perfect.

Not just in Biblical days but in all generations, people are coming to know Christ. Sadhu Sundar Singh was born in an affluent family in India. He was against Christianity from his school days, so much so that once he burnt the Bible. But when he came to know Christ, he renounced his wealth and started preaching Christ. His writings are full of spiritual insight and clearly portray his strong love and deep devotion for Jesus.

There are many who called Jesus and were answered by HIM. I am the least among them.

“Let us reason together.” says the Lord. Take up the challenge. Jesus is willing to be tested and tried . Call him, talk to him, question him and you will never be the same again.
