Wait until the power comes down from above

Acts 1:8“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Without receiving the power of the Holy Spirit, our witnessing will not bear any fruits. Our words will just be empty unless the power of the Holy Spirit is at the core and the foundation of our preaching.

The Word of God is the absolute truth and the one who is true in nature can’t be supported by the fleeting emotions. If a preacher goes out just for the sake of expressing his emotions, there will be no gain. Neither in the sight of God nor beneficial to the listener.

A child of God who has waited to get empowered by the Holy Spirit, goes out with life giving force. His preaching may not be decorated with words of human wisdom nor loaded with emotional testimonials, but powerful enough to go straight to the spiritual core passing through the zone of fleeting emotions bringing many to the feet of the Lord.

People witness for various reasons. Some  for genuine reasons and others to gain glory for themselves or make material gain. Whatever the reason is, if the message has not been prepared in the humble submission of God while waiting for the guidance of the Holy Spirit,  it won’t bring about the desired result. Holy Spirit breathes life giving power to our words. Without the anointing of the Spirit, nothing can be achieved.

Do you want to be a witness for Christ?  Wait and ask the Lord to send his Holy Spirit that will empower you. The power is not in your knowledge nor in your words but in the force that gives life to everyone in this world and the world to come.

Total reliance on the Word

The word of God is the living bread able to sustain us in our time of need. All of us go through periods of trials and tribulations in our lives and how worse it could get than to see our own deserting us at the time when we need them most. Sad, isn’t it? But It happens to make us totally dependent on God and his provisions without looking here and there. Our God is Jehovah Jireh and He has appointed his WORD to uphold us at the time when everything else crumbles down. Life is unpredictable. Some of us suffer more than others and its natural for the one waiting for long without seeing any result to get adversely affected by the negative circumstances. Often times such a person refuses to talk or share his pain with others. Sometimes it gets hard even  to pray and read the Bible. Promises seem just the words and prayers seem to be going no-where. But the help comes and will surely come for our God is faithful. “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” 1Cor. 10:13.

How good it is to fill the mind with the word when times are good so that what comes out of us when afflicted is the truth of word and not the lie of the enemy. Our mind is rebellious and needs strict training to make it a slave otherwise it tries to rule over us. Paul says 1 Cor.9:27, “I beat my body to bring it under complete submission.”

Mind that has been trained by the word of God is at perfect peace. A peaceful mind not only accepts the word but receives it with gladness and makes the perfect ground for the word to flourish. A peaceful mind loves the Lord and hopes and rejoices to see HIM working when nothing is actually at work in physical realm. A peaceful mind is life not only for the believer but also for others whom he is surrounded with. The time of trouble is harsh and hard. But the word provided strength is the only way to overcome the frustration that it produces. When God is present, we don’t feel the adverse effects of the situation. Its strange that we are in the situation but the situation doesn’t harm us. Just as Shadrach Mescach and Abedengo were in the furnace but remain unaffected by the harm. A child of God who has peace of Christ remains unaffected in every furnace of tribulation.

Life does make us suffer, as Jesus said. But he also added, Be brave, I have defeated the world.” A mind trained under the light of the word doesn’t bind us to negative situation but enable us to focus on God earned liberty and freedom that has come down through His Son Jesus Christ.
