2 Peter 1:10, “Be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure.”
Peters talks about becoming more eager to make our calling and election sure. How is it possible to make our calling and election sure?
Peter has given us a checklist to evaluate if we we are eager to make our election and calling sure for the service of the Lord. In verse 5-6 of the same chapter he says, “Make every effort to make add to your faith goodness; and to goodness knowledge, and to knowledge self control; and to self control perseverance; to perseverance godliness; to godliness brotherly kindness; to brotherly kindness, love.”
Goodness to Faith: We have faith in the name of the Lord but faith alone is not enough, we need to add goodness to it that we receive when we proclaim that God is good all the time and all His ways. None of us can be good but God alone, as we spoken by Jesus when someone came o Him saying, “Good teacher what must I do to inherit eternal life? The Lord then answered, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.”
Following Jesus’ example, when we deny our own goodness and train ourselves to believe that God alone is good, we begin to add goodness to our faith.
Knowledge to Goodness: The more we know about the Lord, the more we will know about the goodness of the Lord. Being the followers of the Lord we must spend enough time in the presence of the Lord so that our knowledge of Him will grow and deepen with time.
Self Control to Knowledge: Knowledge, if not guarded, puffs us up. If we are not careful to add self control to our knowledge, we might be found ineffective to the service of the Lord.
Perseverance to Self Control: Perseverance comes to those who wait upon the Lord and when it is added to our self control, it enable become a mighty vessel to the service of the Lord.
Godliness to Perseverance: None of us can persevere in adverse situations unless we receive the grace of the Lord. Grace is available to us from our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Let’s approach the throne of grace where grace and mercy is available in our time of need.
Brotherly Kindness to Godliness: Godliness must be exercised by showing kindness to each other so that the body of Christ may be built up.
Love to Brotherly kindness: Love covers over a multitude of sins and we should show love to each other as has been commanded by the Lord, “Love one another.”
If we have these qualities, we will become productive and effective in our service to the Lord.
