Attributes of the Resting Spirit

Isaiah 11: 1-2,”There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of the knowledge and the fear of the Lord.”

The above verses are spoken for our Lord and Saviour who came down from heaven onto this earth to fulfil the great purpose of God’s heart to reconcile mankind to Himself. When Adam sinned we went away from the creator, But it was not in God’s plan that His children whom he created in His own image remain separated from Him for ever. It was to accomplish the act of reconciliation that God, the father sent down his only Son so that whoever believe on Him shall not parish but have everlasting life.

When God reconciled mankind to Himself according to his plan and purpose, He gave a gift to His children so that they may walk in the newness of life. This gift is the Holy Spirit. The verse above talks about the fruits of the Spirit that God the Father gave to His Jesus Christ and through Him to anyone who is willing to come to Him in faith.

There are 7 attributes of the Spirit of the Lord:

The Spirit of the Lord shall rest – The resting Spirit of the Lord is what we need in order to hear God’s voice and know his divine and definite purpose for our lives. The resting Spirit works in accordance with out faith. When we acknowledge that Jesus is the Prince of Peace and its only in Him that peace and strength are to be found, we open a door for the peace and rest of the Lord to enter into our lives. if you want to receive the peace and rest of the Lord, say to Jesus, “Lord, I submit myself to your peace. Let your peace that surpasses all understanding reign in me and enable me to stand in you.” Once the prayer is done, the prince of peace will take over the situation you are going through and will start operating in your life by covering you with His peace and rest.

Spirit of Wisdom and understanding – Wisdom and understanding work together in the presence of the Lord. Bible says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. If you need Godly wisdom and the understanding to work in you, ask the Lord to enable you to walk in His fear, and give you the discernment to understand how and when to use Godly wisdom for His glory.

Spirit of Counsel and Might – The Spirit brings comfort in our lives by counselling us in our time of need. Upon receiving the Spirit of Counsel, we become able to encourage others not in our own power but in the mighty strength of God Himself.

Spirit of Knowledge and the fear of the Lord – The more we know God, our creator and His Son Jesus Christ, the more we feel secure since the knowledge of the Lord fills us with Godly fear. The more we know about God, our creator and His Son Jesus Christ, the more we will be filled with His love. Bible says, “Perfect love drives out all fears.” Ask the Lord to fill you with a desire to know more about Him and His love. Godly love will keep you secure all the days of your lives.

May the Spirit of the Lord rest upon each one of us today and  may we be filled with all the fruits and attributes of the resting Spirit of the Lord and become able to walk in His presence all the days of our lives.

The Armour of God

Ephesians 6:10, 14-18, “Finally be strong in the Lord and in his full power. Put on the full armour of God so that you may can take your stand against the devil’s schemes…Stand firm then with the belt of truth bucked around your waist with the breastplate of righteousness in place and with the readiness that comes from the Gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. ”

Paul was writing this letter to the congregation of Ephesus urging them to be strong in the Lord for the battle that they were fighting is not against flesh and blood but against the forces of darkness. Paul was urging them to be equipped with the full armour of God so that they may remain firm and stay strong in the mighty power of the Lord.

Belt of truth – Belt of truth is the first and the foremost piece of the Armour of God that Paul has asked the children of God to carry. The enemy comes with the untruth and lie which can only be destroyed by the Word of God. Bible says that fill yourself with the word of God. Children of God, read the word out-loud, repeat it and claim it during the day and ask the Lord to fill you with the truth that is found at the core of the Word so that you may remain unaffected by the lie and deception of the enemy.

Breastplate of righteousness – Paul mentioned the breastplate a piece of the Armour of God since no-one can stand for the Lord unless he/she has believed on the finished work of the Lord on Cross. Christ is the end of the law. Those who try to establish their own righteousness based on the works of their hands have no place in the kingdom of God but only those who begin their Spiritual journey from the Cross. By looking at the bronze snake, the Israelites got deliverance, likewise those who look at the Cross receive the benefit of the work of Jesus on Cross. Believe that it is all done in the name of Jesus and you cannot add anything to it by your own works. By faith, declare that you carry the breastplate of righteousness and yo will be covered in the righteousness of God.

Readiness that comes from the Gospel of Peace – Jesus has given His own peace to us. Ask the Lord to  help you walk in his peace and make you eager to share it with others.

Shield of Faith -Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith. Receive help from Him today to remain in faith and He will help you to carry the shield of faith in His own strength.

Helmet of Salvation – Speak to your mind that its been washed by the blood of the lamb and the thoughts that are not from the Lord can’t dwell in it. Ask the Holy Spirit to control your thoughts and words as the Psalmist says, “May the word of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you.”

Sword of the Spirit – Carry the Word of the Lord and speak it out-loud to crush the evil thoughts.

Pray in the Spirit – Pray without ceasing as the Lord commanded, “Pray that you may not fall into temptation.”

Remain strong in the strength of the Lord and soon the Lord will come to deliver you in His Holy name.
