Isaiah 66:12, “For this is what the LORD says: “I will extend peace to her like a river.”
Peace is what the whole world is looking for. People may have everything they need to live the most comfortable and luxurious lives but no peace. People run after the material blessings and chase things too hard, they cry out to the Lord for promotion in jobs, Godly spouse, blessing of children, money, big houses and luxurious cars but once we have received them, they realise that these materialistic things are not as attractive as their desire was
One fulfilment leads a way for another one, one prayer answerd opens a way for another request to the throne of the Lord. Why don’t some people feel peace and contentment despite having all material blessings.
The answer lies in the fact that peace is an eternal blessing. It is not rooted in this world nor can it be obtained by our human efforts.
Peace doesn’t lie in our material blessings nor in the answer to our prayers.
Peace, an eternal blessing, stays despite a change in worldly situations. Peace is independent of what we have and where we are. It remains and rules in all situations at all time.
In Acts 16, we read about Paul and Silas who were in prison. Their feet were fastened in heavy wooden blocks but despite being in prison, they were worshipping the Lord at midnight.
In Acts chapter 12, Peter was miraculously rescued by an angel of the Lord from the prison. Peter was in jail guarded by soldiers, and bound by two chains, And it is written that Peter was sleeping since he had the peace of the Lord and the angel had to wake him up.
In Acts chapter 26, Paul gives his testimony to Agrippa. Having the fullness of the peace of the Lord, Paul not only gave his testimony to the King but spoke up boldly to the King, “I pray that not only you but those who are listening to me become what I am, except for these chains.”
What great testimonies! Who could be filled with such boldness and rest if not the one who is blessed with the river of peace that flows from the throne of the Lord.
As we are in the first few days of 2017, let’s ask the Lord to fill us with his eternal peace so that we could enjoy the material blessings that the Lord desires to grant us this year. And not only enjoy but use them for His glory and Kingdom.
