“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruits in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.” Psalm 1:1-6
Psalm chapter 1 emphasizes the qualities that keep a righteous man apart from wicked man. It clearly states that you and I will be blessed if we will not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of the sinners or even sit in the seat of the scoffers.
In this time and age we tend to think that its ok to sit with anyone. We think that the more “inclusive” we are the more people will like us. Bible tells us that we are in the world but not of the world. We have been separated from the world to take the light of the Gospel to those who are still in darkness. We need to be careful with whom we sit and talk and take advise from. We need to take the guidance of the Holy Spirit every day to discern where to go and to whom to say “no”.
If we ask the Holy Spirit to help us everyday, we will be guided by the Spirit to fulfill the purpose of God’s heart, in our lives and in the lives of others.
The last part of verse tells us that not only we have to refrain ourselves from associating with certain groups of people but we have to meditate on the word of God day and night, if we want to be blessed.
Those who meditate on the WORD are like trees planted by the streams of water. Men and Women who go under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and meditate on the word of God receive their strength from the word and become strengthened in body, soul, and spirit.
God has called us to become God pleasers not man pleasers!! Lets be careful how we lead our lives everyday and receive the honour to be called “Blessed” by the LORD.
