Idolatry in the temple

Ezekiel 8, “In the sixth year, in the sixth month on the fifth day, while I was sitting in my house and the elders of Judah were sitting before me, the hand of the Sovereign LORD came upon me there…Then he said to me, “Son of man, look toward the north.” So I looked and in the entrance north of the gate of the alter I saw this idol of jealousy. And he said to me, “Son of man, do you see what they are doing-the utterly detestable things the house of Israel is doing here, things that will drive me far away from my sanctuary? But you will see things that are even more detestable.”

In Ezekiel chapter 8, the spirit of the LORD took Ezekiel to Jerusalem to the entrance to the inner court, where the idol that provokes to jealousy stood, and there before him was the glory of the God.

Ezekiel saw the idol of jealousy at the entrance north gate of the alter. Idol of jealousy still stands at the entrance gate of the alter. Its still tries to get hold of the people who try to go near the alter. The idol of jealousy makes every effort to reign in the area that should be filled with Godly reverence and submission. Those who approach the alter should have reverend submission for the LORD God Almighty, but the idol of jealousy works hard to catch those who come to the alter without having Godly submission and reverence. There are people who work for the Lord to glorify His name and there are those who work for the Lord to glorify themselves. When people approach the alter with wrong agenda, the idol of jealousy catches them and fills them up with jealousy.

The only way to conquer the idol of jealousy is to follow the teaching of our Lord ans Saviour Jesus Christ who says in Matthew 23:12, “For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles will be exalted.”

If we approach the alter with clean heart and pure mind with an agenda to glorify the Lord, the idol of jealousy will never be able to conquer us.

The LORD has not called us to work for him with an hidden agenda to glorify ourselves. The LORD has not called us to work for him in public while worshiping the idol of jealousy in private.

Let’s approach the alter with pure heart and clean mind so that our worship may be accepted at the alter of most High God. WE SERVE THE LIVING GOD!
