What is my Calling?

calling

Most of us go through a phase in our lives when we ask this question  – What is my calling?

My calling is different from your calling. Your calling is different from someone else’s calling.

Our calling is unique.

Sometimes,  we determine our calling by looking at the progress that others are making under the same calling. For example, sometime people get so inspired by certain preachers/pastors or healers and they start their own ministry/churches without receiving any instructions or conformation from the Lord.

Sometimes, people jump into ministry work to satisfy their hunger for recognition. I have seen many such ministries that start with great pump and show but come to an end in no time. This happens because the work of the Lord can’t be established on the foundation of our own desires or needs. It has to be established on the cornerstone of the VOICE of Christ. A ministry that is founded on the WORD will endure the hardship of time and stand firm even in the midst of turmoil and storm.

The first step to determine our calling is to hear clearly what the LORD is saying. The ministry that Jesus establishes will not be overcome by anything in this world and the world to come, Just as he told Peter in Matthew 16:18, “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.

Most of us struggle to hear clearly from the Lord. The answer and the key is found in Jeremiah 29:13, “If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.” Seeking the Lord early in the morning brings clarity to our mind and prepares it to hear the voice of the Lord. Those who seek the Lord during early hours of the day are blessed with the greatest gift and honour of fellowship with the LORD.

Seek Him and find Him.

Don’t run after some people who prophesy that you will become a great preacher/pastor etc. unless you have heard it clearly from the Lord.

Another step in determining your calling is to evaluate your strength and weakness. We are all unique with different gifts that could be used to multiply the kindgom of God. When Jesus called Peter, he was a fisherman but the Lord made him a fisherman of men. Likewise if you are a diligent businessman or teacher/lawyer etc.,  the Lord will use your special gifts and talents to spread his kingdom, only if you are faithful to your work. If you are diligent to your current assignment, the Lord will promote you by adding his kingdom work to your job portfolio and the reward from the Lord will be too much for you to keep.

What are you thinking? Have you been struggling to find your calling? Be faithful in the  job/responsibility the Lord has blessed you with. Do your work diligently as if you are working for the Lord, then seek the Lord early morning and the LORD will be more than happy to bring a new assignment to your portfolio to multiply His kingdom.

Like Father, Like Son

“Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.” John 5:19

God has created mankind in his own image with the intention that his children carry his nature and character.

The Word of the Lord says that we are born in sin and brought up with rebellious nature in our disobedience. But the love of God comes to rescue us while we were still persisting in our rebellious nature. It is by grace that we are saved. (Eph. 2:8). When we believe on the eternal plan of salvation, we are marked with the Holy Spirit who is our divine helper. The Spirit comes to teach us how to pray and live a life that pleases the Lord.

When we spend more time in the presence of the Lord and meditate on His word and not pay attention to the fleshly desires, we become sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit.

God has given us tools to quiet our rebellious nature and empowered us by his word to pull down any voice that tries to raise itself against the nature of God. Speaking the Word to ourselves is the easiest way to quiet all sort of voices that try to find a place in the members of our body.

The more we practice walking by the Word of God, the more our inner being becomes strengthened and we become able to live a life that pleases God, our father.

Jesus left us a pattern by looking at the father and imitating his actions and words. We should try to live a Christ centered life by imitating Christ pattern of life so that we may continue to walk as children of God on this earth.

Have you received Christ as your Saviour? If you have, the you have been added into God’s household as his child. But the act of salvation doesn’t stop there, Being a member of God’s family, you become an active part of God’s plan of salvation for all. It becomes the responsibility of those who are reconciled to God that they work hard to reconcile others to God. So that more could be added to God’s household.

Look at the father and listen what the Spirit is saying to you, then follow HIS words and actions! Live the life of a child of God by imitating Jesus’ pattern. Get closer to God every day by listening to him closely so that God may empower you to bring many to the closeness of God.

Renew your strength today!

“Those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31

Waiting upon the Lord is never a waste of time. In our faith journey we sometimes compare our walk with others, we tend to compare our blessings with others and conclude that those who have more, are better believers than others.

We judge by what we see. Our definition of blessing is limited to what seems good to our eyes. We think that a blessing merely mean worldly wealth, good health, happy family, good spouse, and great job.

Those who are single, they think that since they are not married, that could mean that  the Lord is not happy with them or they must have done something wrong or may be its the result of the sins committed by their parents or forefathers.

Those who are unemployed think that the Lord doesn’t want to bless them financially. Sometimes, this negative thinking goes to the extent that those who lack anything in their lives, begin to compromise with their situations and forget all about the promises of God. They think what has not happen so far, will not happen in future. Such negative feeling and attitude steals the “eager expectation” and hope out of lives.

It is written, “Christ in us, the hope of Glory.”

We are here to pray in faith and start living in “eager expectation” for the things to come. We are not supposed to quench the zeal to receive new blessings, doesn’t matter how long the wait seems to be!

Wait might seem a waste of time to some but the LORD uses this phase of our lives to renew our strength. He prepares us to see and receive the new blessings.

Are you waiting for long and nothing seems to be moving? Have you waited enough and are going to lose your hope? Wait! Just ask the Lord to send his grace to wait. Ask the Lord to renew your hope that is found not in creation but in the Son of God. “Christ in me, the hope of Glory.”

Waiting upon the Lord is not a waste of time. The Lord is renewing your strength so that you could see and receive his mighty works and proclaim  how great your God is!

Take oil while you are waiting!

Matthew 25:1-10, “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep. At midnight the cry rang out, “Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.” Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, “Give us some of your oil; out lamps are going out.” No, they replied, there may not be enough for both of us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves, But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.”

The foolish ones didn’t take any oil with them.

The only difference between wise and foolish virgins was that the wise took oil and the foolish ones didn’t take any!

The oil that the wise virgins had was the oil of anointing and joy. It is written in Hebrew 1:9, “You have loved righteousness  hated wickedness, therefore God,  your God,  has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.”

If you are waiting upon the LORD, don’t let the long wait bring spiritual dryness into your life. Wait for the Lord with joyous expectation that the Lord will come and reward you.

If you see that you are getting spiritually dry and your joy is leaving you, don’t wait for anyone or anything. Start worshiping the Lord, cover yourself with garments of praise and you will regain your strength.

The joy of the Lord is your strength and my strength. The joy of the Lord is precious. Don’t let fleeting thoughts take the eternal joy away from your life. Guard your joy and you will get reward from the Lord!

The Parable of the two sons

Matthew 21:28-31, “What do you think? There was a man who had sons. He went to the first and said, “Son, go and work today in the vineyard.” “I will not.” he answered, but later he changed his mind and went. Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, “I will, sir, but he did not go. “Which of the two did what his father wanted?” “The first”, they answered. Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you.”

Jesus is speaking to all of us today through these verses. If we are born and brought up in christian home, it doesn’t mean anything. What matters in the sight of God is obedience.

There are people coming from other religions since they have tasted the goodness of Jesus in their lives. They know that Jesus didn’t come to establish any religion but a relationship with God, the Father. Those who have experienced the love of father through Jesus Christ, are ready to do whatever the father wants.

These people are full of zeal and devotion for the Lord. These people take the word of God seriously since they have found something they never had before in their lives. These people know the value of the treasure they have found in Christ. These people become a light to the nations to bring  the goodness of God to others.

This is an awakening call for those who are born and brought up in Christian homes.

Let’s take the word of God seriously from this moment on-wards. Let’s ask the Holy Spirit to help us become obedient to God. Let’s become diligent coworkers for the kingdom. Let’ work hard to bring many to the kingdom of heaven.

Remember the reason you first came to the Lord! Don’t let your first love ever fade away.
